Many of us do unethical things even as we believe we are acting in the right. The consequences can ruin lives.

decency not only is compatible with great results--but helps drive profits. You be the judge.

Top 14 Financial Frauds of All Time BNET http://www.bnet.com/photos/top-14-financial-frauds-of-all-time/6195447 ...History is full of scams and frauds that removed billions of dollars from the pockets of investors and destroyed entire economies. This post contains some of the most memorable. There is one huge difference, though, between the Great Wall Street Ripoff and the all the rest of these history-making scams. See if you can figure it out, before you get to the end of the gallery. The Sale of the Roman Empire (193 A.D.) 1 of 14 During unrest in the Roman Empire, the Praetorian Guard (a special army supposedly loyal to the emperor), killed the current emperor and offered the empire to the highest bidder. The "winner" was Julianus, who came up with a truly astronomical price: 250 gold pieces for every member of the army, which comes out to somewhere around $1 billion in today's money. Unfortunately, the guards had sold something that didn't belong to them, a classic, if simple, financial fraud. The new "emperor" was never recognized as such and was quickly deposed. Fun fact: The Mississippi Scheme (1719) 2 of 14 When Scottish financial genius John Law started a company to develop the then-wilderness Louisiana, he saw nothing wrong with hyping the possibilties rather than the reality. He convinced investors (including the French government) to back his development scheme. Shares in his company skyrocketed and French currency increased in value, since it was widely believed France would gain a mountain of gold and silver from what was then only a swampy backwater. When investors actually received what Louisiana was like, shared plummeted. Law narrowly avoided being lynched, escaping only by disguising himself as a beggar. He died in poverty nine years later. Fun fact:    The Diamond Necklace Hoax (1785) 3 of 14 It's been said that few creatures on this earth are more gullible than a horny priest. That was certainly the case with Cardinal Prince de Rohan, who was so convinced that he was having an affair with Queen Marie Antoinette (pictured), that he arranged for her to purchase, on her line of credit, a diamond necklace worth six million livres. Unfortunately, Rohan was, unbeknownst to him, actually having an affair with a prostitute dressed up as the Queen, a ruse conducted by his (former) mistress, courtesan/countess Jeanne de la Motte, who hoped to make away with the necklace herself. When caught, de la Motte was sentenced to be stripped naked in public and branded with a hot iron. Fun fact: The Wright Panic (1900) 4 of 14 Never underestimate the power of social pressure. Financier Whitaker Wright put pretigious figurehead names -- lords and ladies, mostly -- on the boards of directors of his companies. As a result, investing his firms became quite the social norm among the well-heeled. Unfortunately, while his companies looked solvent on paper, they were really only lending money to one another in order to balance the books. When the scheme became public, shares collapsed, leaving many of his posh pals penniless. Fun fact: ... ********** Top 10 Lies Politicians Tell About Business - BNET Lie #1 We want to balance the budget. 1 of 10 Who Tells It: Lie #2 The gender pay gap is real 2 of 10Who Tells It: Liberals pander to the feminists by insisting that men are paid more than women. But here's the truth: when you factor out the time that women spend having children and caring for them, and then compare apples to apples (i.e. same job, same start date), the gender pay gap shrinks to statistical insignificance. This lie is pernicious because it distracts people from looking at the REAL pay gap, which is insane accumulation of wealth and earnings among the super-rich. As long as politicians can keep middle-class men and women squabbling over table scraps, nobody will notice that ALL of the economic gains of the past three decades have gone to those who were already obscenely wealthy. Lie #3 The U.S. has high corporate tax rates 3 of 10Who Tells It: While it's true that the U.S. tax rates (on the books) is among the highest in the world, there are so many tax breaks available to businesses (especially large ones) that the ACTUAL tax rate is lower than many third world countries. The only companies that pay the full tax rate are small businesses that can't pay accountants to squirrel away money overseas and can't pay politicians to enact preferential treatment and special breaks. The result is a huge advantage for large companies, even though they employ a tiny (and declining) fraction of American workers. Lie #4 We support small businesses 4 of 10Who Tells It: Politicians give lip service to small businesses, because small businesses actually comprise most of the economic activity in the United States. But small business have no political power and therefore no influence. A small business can't raise enough money to get on the radar screen of any one politician (except maybe the hometown congressman), which means that the interests of small businesses will always get short shrift. The problem is made worse by the fact that many small business owners foolishly believe that the CEOs of huge firms will influence politicians to become more "business-friendly". What they don't understand is that a business climate that's friendly to huge multinationals can easily be one that's toxic to small businesses. Lie #5 We have the best healthcare in the world 5 of 10Who Tells It: The way the Republicans talk about it, you'd think that any substantive change in the current healthcare system would bring American businesses to utter rack and ruin. But the truth is providing the current system in the United States is extraordinarily inefficient, with costs that are higher (relative to actual results) than anywhere else in the world. While the current system is great for two industries -- insurance and healthcare -- every other industry operates at a disadvantage in the United States because either they, or their workers, have to pay for the inefficiency of a system where expensive procedures are more profitable than keeping people healthy. Lie #6 Free trade creates jobs 6 of 10Who Tells It: Free trade creates jobs...in places where labor is cheap. In the United States, free trade has created massive outsourcing that has, in turn, gutted entire sectors of the economy. It's not just the manufacturing jobs that have gone away. There are hundreds of thousands of highly-trained engineers, for example, who are being put out of work by engineers abroad who will work for what in the United States would be minimum wage. The collapse of the American job market was hidden for years by a massive glut of borrowing and consumer spending, but now it's come home to roost, to the point where gaining back a tiny fraction of the jobs that were lost is considered a huge victory. Lie #7 Nobody is above the law 7 of 10Who Tells It: As my brilliant colleage, BNET blogger Alain Sherter pointed out in his post "Why the Feds Won't Prosecute Bankers", corporations that are deemed "too big to fail" are routinely given a free pass when they commit crimes. The executives who commit criminal acts are allowed to walk and the companies themselves given a nominal fine, in order to make certain that the company survives. As a result, executives at huge firms know that they can continue to commit crimes, because they know they will not be held accountable. Any attempt to regulate such firms so that they can't wriggle out is quickly squelched, primarily by Republicans, but aided and abetted by those Democrats who are also sucking at the corporate teat. Lie #8 What's good for big business is good for the country 8 of 10Who Tells It: It used to be that "What's good for GM is good for the country." But that was when large companies actually employed a a large number of American workers. Today, many huge companies are deployed so heavily overseas that they're not really American at all. Many multinationals are, for all intents and purposes, sovereign states. Some even have their own standing armies. Even so, U.S. politicians in both parties continue treat such corporations as if they were American entities, and are more than happy to accept their campaign contributions, even though this is tantamount to accepting money from a foreign country. Lie #9 We feel your pain 9 of 10Who Tells It: Politicians at the federal level, including Democrats, are so far removed from poverty, or even from the middle-class, that it's impossible for them to have any idea what it is actually like to try to survive in the current economic climate. Many members of congress are millionaries and multi-millionaires, as are most of the senators. Many come from families with inherited wealth. They are all highly paid, with the world's best health insurance, and lifetime job security as lobbyists or industry consultants. The idea that anyone in this position can "feel the pain" is sickeningly absurd. Lie #10 Supply side economics really works 10 of 10Who Tells It: It's been decades since George H.W. Bush gave Supply Side Economics the "Voodoo" sobriquet, and yet there are still politicians (Republicans mostly) who insist that this crack-brained idea is valid, even though there is not a single shred of evidence that this is the case. Why the persistent denial of reality? It's a classic case of wanting to have your cake and eat it, too, combined with a willingness to belief any old thing that makes you feel good. It's probably not a coincidence that the most vocal proponents of this particular brand of economic snake oil also hold other absurd beliefs contrary to history and observable reality. Show me a tried and true supply sider, and I'll show you somebody who believes that every word of the Bible is accurate, that global warming is fictional, and that Obama was born on the planet Mars.

7 Tricks to Improve Your Memory  BNET

How do you remember the names of new business associates?
    Do you:
    A) repeat their name five times in your head while shaking their hand?
    B)  try to cement the image of their face with their name by sheer mental power?
    C) associate the name with a famous actress and picture her doing a headstand on a balance beam?
If you answered A or B, you are fighting an uphill battle, one that–if you’re over 40, especially–you’re  probably losing. The best answer is C, according to journalist Joshua Foer, who has discovered and elucidated memory-enhancing strategies in his memorably-titled book, Moonwalking With Einstein: The Art and Science of Remembering Everything, a story of his journey from Joe Average Memory to winner of the U.S. Memory Championship.
Foer stumbled into the world of memory athletics by chance, but was driven to delve into it because of what he and the rest of us are facing today in our hyper-technological world. On the one hand, we rely on our memory less as technology–cell phones, auto redial, Google searches, etc–provide us with a wealth of information at the tap of some keys.  Yet we’re also bombarded with information (passwords anyone?), and it would be nice to be able to remember at least some of it.
Foer said he was skeptical when he first started researching memory enhancement techniques and the promises from authors trying to profit on our fears of losing our minds. But he learned that memorizing techniques date back to the Ancient Greek Simonides. But he also learned that that’s all they are, techniques. “You can’t improve an underlying memory ability,” he told WNYC radio host Leonard Lopate. “What you can do is, in certain limited ways, is learn techniques that help you remember more.”
According to Foer’s research, if you need an assist in remembering names at a conference, your credit card number, or to pick up milk on the way home, use these techniques and you’ll be able trust your memory to come through for you (plus it is bound to make your day-to-day inner life more exciting):
    • Use graphic images to remember: Your brain is wired to remember visually and spatially, and the more erotic and exotic the images, the better your brain does. Foer writes that you have to “take the kinds of memories our brains aren’t good at holding on to and transform them into the kinds of memories our brains were built for.” It’s called elaborate encoding: “The general idea with most memory techniques is to change whatever boring thing is being inputted into your memory into something that is so colorful, so exciting, and so different from anything you’ve seen before that you can’t possibly forget it,” he writes in his book.
    • Associate hard-to-remember facts with your childhood home. In order to remember a to-do list, or even names of people, you need to place these things in something very familiar like the house you grew up in. Take a visual tour of your house starting with the front door, placing your first item on your list there, and wend your way through your house placing each item in different hallways or rooms. But don’t just place “call Sophia,” on the front stoop. Take the image to the extreme. Think of what Sophia reminds you of (Sophia Loren) and visually place her sitting on the lap of a she-male making a phone call (this is Foer’s example, not mine). Or, suggests Foer, if you’re trying to remember to buy cottage cheese, think of Claudia Schiffer swimming in a giant vat of it. After you’ve place down your memories, then retake that tour of your house and you’ll visually pick up and remember each of the items you laid down.
    • Oh yeah, make the images very erotic–and absurd, according to 29-year-old Foer, and the centuries of mental athletes (mostly male) that came before him. That’s pretty much how our minds are wired, so go with it. You’re bound to remember absurdly lurid images more than you’d remember the mundane.
    • Connect the image to a celebrity or close relative or friend. Go back to that Sophia Loren example. When you meet someone, quickly think of an association–an actor, a model, the president, your grandmother–and think of that person in an outrageous situation, the more lurid the better.
    • Use “chunking” to remember passwords. Chunking–grouping numbers or letters into chunks–helps make it easier for a long sequence to be remembered. This is why credit card numbers are separated into groups of four and hyphens are inserted into phone numbers. Thus, the password Li34TH7 can be chunked as Li  34 Th7. And your memory will work even better if you put the chunks into a context. Long Island (Li), 34th street (34TH) and 7th avenue (7).
    • Code your numbers. To remember numbers, use an age-old technique called “Major System.” It uses a code to change numbers into letters and then those letters can form easy-to-remember words, which can then be visualized.  You’ll have to read his book, p. 164 to get the code, but wrote Foer, “When I first learned it, I immediately memorized my credit card and bank account numbers.”
    • Practice, practice, practice. Visualizing images, and doing it in a matter of seconds, takes practice. Your mental muscles get better at it the more you do it. One of the memory experts Foer interviewed told him that if he practiced one hour a day, six days a week, he could be in the top 3 of the U.S. Memory Championship. Which he did!
Have you used any techniques to improve your memory? What worked–and what didn’t?

    Productivitate

The Single Best Time Management Tip Ever | BNET

I spent most of my life at war with time–and time usually won.  I’d read every book and taken every course along the way, and with a few exceptions (like David Allen’s excellent Getting Things Done), most of it seemed to rehash common sense.  The feeling of being overwhelmed and underproductive was relentless.
The big breakthrough came when I was first teaching at USC and a student with severe dyslexia asked for help.  Not knowing what to do, I turned to an expert on learning disorders.  She advised that I let the student take the exam in my office, giving him short breaks every 20 minutes.  The student did very well, surprising us both, and I was intrigued.  After years of working with 20-minute segments, the Multiple Put Down technique was born.   I’ve used it to write four books, a dissertation and thousands of speeches.
Here it is: work on a task in 20-minute increments, with absolute focus, and then put it down, over and over, until you’re done.  In this case, the gold is in the details, so please follow them exactly:
    1. Alert your brain that a task is coming that will require its recall, creativity, and brilliance (yes, your brain is brilliant–thank your parents).  Then let some time pass–a day, perhaps.
    2. When you’re ready to start, set a timer for 20 minutes, such as the stopwatch feature on an iPhone.  Set your cell phone to airplane mode, turn off your email, and silence all other distractions.  Then hit start on the timer.
    3. During the 20 minutes, you must focus on that task without interruption. And unless the building burns down, do nothing but work on that task until the timer goes off.  You may hit the wall, but keep going.  The vast majority of people find they can work on that task “in the zone” until the timer goes off.
    4. After 20 minutes, you have a choice: keep working or take a break.  If you keep working, reset the timer to 20 minutes and go through the process again, without interruption until the next 20 minutes are up.  If you decide to take a break, it can be short (such as refilling your coffee cup), medium (returning a phone call) or long (going into a meeting, or working out).
That’s it.  You pick it up and put down over and over, hence the name “Multiple Put Down.”  Some data, my own experience, and reports from the thousands of people who have learned the technique is that you are much more efficient–often finishing a task in 30-50% of the time it would take if you worked on it in one sitting.  Even better, the quality of the work is far superior than if you followed your mother’s advice of “start early and just get it done.”  There are other benefits, too: less stress, reduced frustration, and a general feeling of being brilliant.  Multiple Put Down will save you hours and it can be even more powerful when combined with a Life Repair Day.
There are several advantages to the Multiple Put Down technique.  The first is that your brain is brilliant at running processes in the background, but is awful at multitasking.  While you’re driving to work, in the shower or answering email, your brain will be working in the background on the task, so that when you’re ready, it’ll drain through your fingers, into your computer or notepad, for about 20 minutes.  The break allows your brain to restock the supply of brilliance.  Each time you go through the process is a “productivity unit.”
Here are some tasks that are perfectly suited for Multiple Put Down: writing a report, preparing a pitch for a client or boss, figuring out how to solve a tough problem.  Fans of Tribal Leadership might be interested to know that the book was written in 1106 productivity units.

    December 3rd, 2007 by admin

In prezent, se pare ca secretul sta ascuns tocmai in stilul de viata, in ceea ce consumi pentru a oferi energie organismului.
Ciocolata neagra si foarte multa carne rece la micul dejun, stau in topul listei de alimente care potenteaza materia cenusie, sugereaza cercetatorii, in timp ce sexul este esential pentru a mentine creierul in forma in viata de mai tarziu.
Discursurile in fata clasei ajuta datorita reputatiei implicate.

    Competition vs. Cooperation
I never particularly liked to compete, but I was taught to compete for grades, for attention and for approval. I was taught that my value was in my looks and performance, not in my goodness, kindness, caring and compassion.
Now I know that there is far more joy and achievement in cooperation than competition. Now I know that I can define my own worth through my intrinsic qualities of goodness, gentleness, kindness, creativity, caring and compassion, rather than competing to be seen as worthy through others' eyes.

Relationships are fertile ground for learning about ourselves – about our unloving behavior that creates the very disconnection we don’t want, and about the loving behavior that brings aliveness, joy, and passion to our relationship. The key here is to stay open to learning with yourself and your partner about your feelings and behavior. By staying open to learning about your painful feelings and your partner’s feelings, you can both learn to be kinder, gentler, more connected and more loving with each other.
Isn’t this what we all want – the sweet tender moments and the alive passionate moments that occur when we are loving and connected with each other? You will be able to have more and more of these moments as you learn how to take loving care of your own feelings so that you don’t disconnect from your partner with your protective, controlling behavior.

The Law of Attraction – It’s About Frequency

Many of us have heard of the Law of Attraction – that like attracts like. However, many are confused about what this really means.
In my experience, like attracts like means that like frequency attracts like frequency. My high frequency attracts the things I want and my low frequency attracts the things I don’t want.
The question then becomes, what raises or lowers frequency?
    What Lowers Frequency?
Anything that makes you feel down lowers your frequency. Here is a list of what I have found lowers frequency:
    • Intent to control - When your desire is to control your feelings, as well as others and outcomes, you are operating out of your wounded self, which lowers your frequency. Even positive thoughts can lower your frequency when your intent is to control rather than be loving to yourself and others.
    • Negative thinking, Resentment, Judgment and Self-Judgment - The lies you tell yourself from your ego wounded self lower your frequency. Feelings of fear, anxiety, depression, anger, guilt, shame, jealousy, and envy all have a low frequency, so any thought that comes from false beliefs and that creates these feelings lowers your frequency.
    • Resistance - The fear of being controlled by others, by God, or even by yourself, creates resistance, which lowers the frequency.
    • Alcohol – While people might convince themselves that they raise their frequency when drinking, this is not true. Just because it may lower your stress, doesn’t mean it raises your frequency.
    • Prescription drugs – Since prescription drugs are alien to the body, the body has to work to deal with them, which causes a lowering of frequency.
    • Recreational drugs – A few recreational drugs – the kinds of drugs that indigenous people used infrequently to connect with Spirit – can raise your frequency for a short period of time. But frequent use has the opposite effect.
    • Food – Fresh, whole organic food has a high frequency, but processed foods have a low frequency and lower the frequency of your body.
    • Lack of exercise – Our bodies are meant to move; not moving lowers your frequency.
    • Lack of sleep – It is hard to have a high frequency when you don’t get enough sleep.
    • Lack of water – Dehydration creates huge stress on the body, which lowers the frequency.
    • Negative environment – It is often hard to maintain a positive attitude when in a negative environment. We are affected both positively and negatively by others’ frequency.
    What Raises Frequency?
    • Intent to learn – Our free will to choose our intent in any given moment is the most powerful choice we have. Choosing to learn about loving ourselves and others, rather than choosing to protect/avoid/control is the major way we have of raising our frequency. This is why, when we think positively from an intent to control, in an attempt to manifest what we want, we are often not successful, as anything done from the intent to control – even positive thinking – lowers the frequency.
    • Positive thinking – This might seem like a contradiction to the statement above, but it is about intent. When your intent in thinking positively is to be loving to yourself and support your highest good, this raises your frequency. When your intent in positive thinking is to control others and outcomes, then it lowers your frequency.
    • Food – Fresh whole foods that are in alignment with your metabolism and that support your health, raise your frequency.
    • Exercise – Exercise that you love and that makes you feel alive raises your frequency. Forcing yourself to do exercise that you don’t like lowers your frequency.
    • Getting enough sleep – Sleep is vital for feeling good enough to be open to and connected with yourself, others and your spiritual Guidance. Being disconnected from ourselves lowers our frequency.
    • Drinking enough water – Being fully hydrated is vital to keeping your frequency high.
    • Being in a peaceful environment – Being in nature, listening to music, and being around loving and accepting people raises your frequency.
    • Love – Love and peace are the highest frequency feelings, so being loving to yourself and others, which creates inner peace, raises your frequency.
Like does attract like, so focus on keeping your frequency high and you will manifest your dreams!

"Cele 17 legi ale muncii in echipa" - John C. Maxwel

    Scris de Loredana Latis
    Miercuri, 06 Aprilie 2011 21:28

Acorda atentie atitudinilor, deoarece avantajul castigatorului sta in atitudinea lui, nu in aptitudini!

4 Secrets of Extremely Lucky People

4 Secrets of Extremely Lucky People  BNET
Luck, in our everyday understanding, is a random gift of the universe. The superstitious might go in for rabbits’ feet and four-leaf clovers and the religious for prayer, but otherwise there’s nothing you can do to attract good fortune or repel bad luck. Or is there?
Believe it or not, this is something science has looked into. Experimental psychologist Richard Wiseman has spent over a decade investigating whether lucky and unlucky people actually do anything differently.
To do this he used a newspaper advertisement to solicit hundreds of volunteers who felt they were exceptionally lucky or unlucky then conducted a series experiments to determine what, if anything, set one group apart from the other.
It turned out that, when it came to the difference in outcomes between the two groups, divine providence and random chance had little to do with it. Instead, lucky people had a particular outlook and way of operating in the world that maximized the chances of happy coincidences occurring. Wiseman breaks this outlook down into four principles on his website:
Maximize Chance Opportunities Lucky people are skilled at creating, noticing and acting upon chance opportunities. They do this in various ways, including networking, adopting a relaxed attitude to life and by being open to new experiences.
Principle Two: Listening to Lucky Hunches. Lucky people make effective decisions by listening to their intuition and gut feelings. In addition, they take steps to actively boost their intuitive abilities by, for example, meditating and clearing their mind of other thoughts.
Principle Three: Expect Good Fortune. Lucky people are certain that the future is going to be full of good fortune. These expectations become self-fulfilling prophecies by helping lucky people persist in the face of failure, and shape their interactions with others in a positive way.
Principle Four: Turn Bad Luck to Good. Lucky people employ various psychological techniques to cope with, and often even thrive upon, the ill fortune that comes their way. For example, they spontaneously imagine how things could have been worse, do not dwell on ill fortune, and take control of the situation.
You might be thinking that Wiseman’s principles are all well and good, but that people’s ability to adopt them is basically a function of their personality and difficult to change. If you’re a worrywart by nature, for instance, can you really teach yourself not to dwell on bad fortune? Can control freaks learn to break their routines and embrace chance encounters?
Yes, says Wiseman in an article for Skeptical Inquirer (download the long, fascinating read here). In it he described operating “luck school” that actually had an impact on increasing participants’ good fortune:
I explained how lucky people… create good fortune in their lives, and described simple techniques designed to help them think and behave like a lucky person. For example… without realizing it, lucky people tend to use various techniques to create chance opportunities that surround them, how to break daily routines, and also how to deal more effectively with bad luck by imagining how things could have been worse. I asked my volunteers to spend a month carrying out exercises and then return and describe what had happened. The results were dramatic. 80 percent of people were now happier, more satisfied with their lives, and, perhaps most important of all, luckier.
Of course, it’s worth noting that some bad luck is just random. If an out of control skier breaks your leg the day after you broke your arm tripping over the neighbor’s dog, you are not to blame for your injuries. But luck can have such a dramatic impact on our lives, from a chance meeting with your future spouse to a coincidental business connection that results in a million dollar deal, that it’s reassuring to know it’s not totally beyond our control.
Do you believe lucky people make their own good fortune?

    Prietenia

    http://www.dindragoste.ro/despre-prietenie.php

Tu, omul, esti sacrificat intotdeauna.
Ei n-ar incerca sa treaca o clipa in mine, ca sa imi inteleaga nebunia. M-ar decreta nebun, m-ar tolera s-au m-ar lasa singur. In nici un caz n-ar trece in mine.
